Salsa’s Canal Transit Date and Website To Watch Transit
http://www.pancanal.com/eng/photo/camera-java.html?cam=Expansion
Cant be 100% sure of the schedule until just before the transit but normally we pass the Gatun locks to enter the canal around 8 or 9PM and are in those locks for over and hour. Then the best view should be from the Mira Flores locks around 2PM on Saturday. I can give spot checks along the way so you know about where I am, or I can try to call from the cell phone at least just before the aproach to the mira flores locks. If you can try to use the high resolution and I will try to get the camera operator to zoom onto Salsa, we have been able to get them to do that before on other transits. You can try the link out now to see how it works.
Oh well, might as well make this a short website update too, The panama Canal transit is this Friday February 13th, the plan is to spend a week or two in Panama City or the surounding islands and then depending on the weather set sail towards Galapagos around March 1. Updates from Cartagena and the last trip to San Blas coming soon, photos are allready on the website! -kirk

Hi Kirk, its great to read your logs, thanks for posting. Watching the Miraflores right now (14:13) but may have missed…. Here’s hoping the transit goes well and you have a great sail to Galapagos. Are you planning to get one of the permits I’ve read about or just call on a port?

Kirk-
I enjoy checking your progress. I own A-30 #555, Atalanta, now undergoing a complete refit. I have hopes of making a similar trek. If you have the time, I would like to hear from you on any traits or features of your boat that you might have prepared differently for the big trip, now that you are out there doing it. Be safe, have fun.
CHASE, thanks for continuing to follow the website!! I still use those old flippers you gave me before I left, infact have repaired them a few times! Not planning on any permits in Galapagos, just go on a few tours if I can afford them after checking in. Good to here from you! -Kirk
GEORGE, Im very happy with the way Salsa is set up and equipped, not sure I would do much in the way of changes, except maybe more water, I currently have a 28gallon tank under the Vbirth and another 30 gal in Jugs, Its enough to live more or less comfortably for a month, but Im not in love with rationing the water, a nice 50gal tank would be nicer. But overall Im very happy with Salsa.
Hey Dude,
Congratulations on a successful transit. Seeing you back on track heading in the right direction is awesome !. Looking forward to hearing about your gallop to the Gallopagos!

Kirk–
As a long-time Gulf fisherman, I gotta ask: did you actually eat that Spanish Mack??? I grew up believing eating one would be like eating axle grease. What are the small tuna-esque fish in the cockpit floor. Look a lot like Butter Fish, but too big for the Texas passes I fish….
Good pics.
Hi Kirk,
Glad to hear you got through the Canal. We have enjoyed your website. We are at Dan’s and just drank a glass of wine in your honor. Have a fantastic trip and keep us posted.
Saw pictures of you in Peru and enjoyed them. Wish we could have been there with you.
Would love to see those stars at night and the sunrises and sunsets with you.
Love you much,
Grandma
